Why you should be masturbating during Coronavirus lockdown

Woman's hands clasping the sheet as she orgasms

It's no secret that we love having a good fiddle. We've written extensively on masturbation over the years and both the anecdotal and scientific evidence is clear. It's a bloody good thing to do for your health, both mental and physical, and literally does wonders for your immune system. Now more than ever, as we enter into this unpredictable and unprecedented lockdown it is absolutely vital for us to be looking after ourselves as much as we can.

While we're being encouraged to stay connected online so we don't fall into pits of loneliness, and to get out for a bit of exercise and vitamin D so we don't go insane within the four walls of the house, we also mustn't forget to look after some of our other important health needs; our sexual well-being and satisfaction. In fact, it is so important that some governments have even sent out official government suggestions for masturbation and safe sex practices during the time of quarantine and lockdown. And New York City's official Health Department is also encouraging masturbation as the safest sex you can have during this period.

Reconnect with Yourself

Lockdown is stressful. It really is. So many things, both in our immediate personal lives and in the larger, broader global community are up in the air right now and there's a lot of uncertainty and anxiety all around which is making those little self care things seem unimportant and frivolous. But they're not!

You are the most important person in your world and (like they tell you on an aeroplane when demonstrating the oxygen masks) you need to look after yourself first. I know it's not easy to find the time for a lot of us stuck at home with young kids etc but if you can find a spare five or ten minutes while they nap or hang out with the Netflix babysitter then I highly recommend locking yourself in the bathroom or bedroom and seeing if you can give yourself a nice quick orgasm. It really will help. Here's why.

Endorphins and Chemicals and Hormones, Oh My!

As we've talked about in the past the chemicals that are released in your body after an orgasm are some of the most important hormones and chemicals we need in our lives to be happy, relaxed and stress free....

And if there's one thing we could all do with right now it's a bit of happy juice flowing into our brains.

Not Just Our Brains

One thing that has been really interesting to read about during this pandemic is the topic of immunity. While so far there is no vaccine, and we know that COVID-19 can be incredibly dangerous for those with compromised immune systems, did you know that masturbating and orgasming might do wonders for your white blood cells, which are the blood cells we need to help our immune system work. This doesn't mean masturbating will cure Coronavirus or even prevent us from catching it, but sometimes if we're unwell with other smaller illnesses, it means we are less able to fight off some of the bigger ones. Having a strong immune system to fight those little ones away means our body is in better shape to deal with the bigger ones if they happen to come along and in the fight against COVID-19 we need all the help we can get.

You are your Safest Sex Partner

Forgetting about STIs for a moment, these days just the act of hugging and kissing someone could lead to potential COVID-19 infections and, for the most part, sex with other people is kinda full of kissing and hugging. Which means no matter how safe you are in the downstairs department, there's a hell of a lot of risk coming from upstairs now too.

Masturbation not only means you won't catch any sexually transmitted infections, it also means you won't come into contact with other infections you can get from the mouth or hands like COVID-19.

Masturbation can Pass the Time

We will probably always remember our first month of lockdown as the month that lasted 3 years, and what a slow and stressful 3 years that was. Sometimes just getting out of our own head and into a fantasy state of mind can be the best thing to do to help time pass a little more quickly. Some people escape into books. Others into music or movies. And sometimes it's nice to put the book down and turn the music up and escape into our own sexual fantasies and dreams. Sure, escapism isn't always the best way to deal with things... But I do believe that this is not one of those times and you should try and escape as often as you can. If you have the time and the space now is the perfect time to try and learn those sex things you wanted to. Can you squirt? Why not make that a learning goal? Multiple orgasms never seem to happen? Get working on it, we have plenty of time! Try different techniques like edging or incorporate new things into the mix like sex toys, butt plugs or porn.

This is definitely one of the strangest and most unknown experiences the world we know has ever dealt with and it really is important to hold onto certain things that are familiar and enjoyable and that bring a little happiness and fun into our days. So, for the sake of your sanity, your health, and something a little more exciting than your fourth viewing of Tiger King, get fiddling and playing and don’t forget to wash your hands!
