How does smoking weed affect your sex life

Woman lying on a bed smoking weed

As laws and attitudes towards marijuana begin to change around the world there has been an increase in both researched and anecdotal evidence on the positive effects it can have on our lives. This is in medical applications, in mental health applications, and also in sexual applications. From cannabis infused tampons to help women deal better with menstrual cramps, to cannabis infused lubricants and sex arousal creams to enhance and spice up your sex life, this old-as-time weed is getting a modern-day, sexy revamp.

In fact, according to a new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, pot smokers are more likely to have regular, enjoyable sex than non users. So we decided to have a look at some of the pros and cons that go along with this growing trend so you can make your own, informed choices.

How weed can positively affect your sex life:

Relaxes and loosens your mind

Combining the floaty contentedness of being high with the floaty contentedness of orgasmic bliss really is the perfect way to experience sex. Your body and mind become one happy, fuzzy puddle of good feelings and your mind opens up to new sensations and experiences. When the body is more relaxed we begin to let go of certain inhibitions and fully embrace the powerful eroticism our bodies are capable of, giving us new and wonderful sex-periences to explore and indulge in.

Increases blood-flow and sensitivity

With the added cannabinoids in our system, and the ensuing relaxation and de-stressing of the body, comes the added benefit of deep breathing and oxygen intake causing increased blood-flow. And one of the most important things we need to heighten arousal and sensitivity is blood-flow. The more blood we have filling our sensitive areas like the penis or the vulva, the more sensations we get from them, and the more sensations we get from them the longer, stronger and more frequently our orgasms come. It’s basically a win win situation all round!

Bonding Activity

Recent research has shown that couples who indulge in the wacky-tobbacky together have higher rates of staying together than couples who don’t, and this is down to a few different reasons. Being high and relaxed around them increases trust and promotes intimacy bringing people much closer together, and weed-smoking couples reported far less instances of arguments and fights within the relationship than non-smokers. Having an activity to share together is another aspect of weed smoking that brings couples together, as is the fact that most people who partake are usually far more open-minded and socially aware and have fewer judgements and prejudices towards differences.

How weed can negatively affect your sex life:

Apathy and meh

Probably one of the biggest concerns about weed is the fact that it has the ability to make you not really bothered to do anything at all. The more regularly you smoke, the more likely you are to lose interest in doing stuff, and that can go for sex as well. While yes, sitting on the couch stoned and eating pizza while staring at another season of Netflix can be the perfect date night together, it can also become a rut that takes precedent over other activities and enjoyment like sex and conversation.

Lower fertility rates and decreased sperm count

If you and your partner are trying to conceive it’s probably a good idea to put the weed away for a while. Not only does weed slow down the process and ability to make sperm, making your count lower, it also has been known to affect the structure of the sperm itself making it difficult to penetrate and fertilise an egg. The good news is it’s not a permanent thing so if you put the bong down for a month or so before starting your conceiving journey you should have less issues when it comes to the crunch.

Getting the dries

While most pot smokers are no stranger to the sensation of dry mouth, many of them don’t realise that it has almost exactly the same effect on your vagina. The mucus membranes and tissues of the mouth are practically identical to the once in the vagina and respond in the same way, causing dryness and discomfort struggling to produce any lubrication at all. While I think lube is a must-have accessory for all sex play, it goes triple for those sexy stoned sessions, and should be applied liberally and often.

As always it is important for me to remind you to be safe and get consent, something that is super important, but that is often slightly further back in our minds when we are using substances that alter our perceptions and can affect our risk assessment. Also be aware that in Australia the consumption of marijuana for recreational purposes is illegal and, depending on which state you live in, can come with some pretty hefty punishments, so don’t be stupid and get yourself into trouble. One day the controlling powers that be will wake up and realise that this harmless little plant could actually save the world in so many ways… But until that day, be careful, be safe, and bong on, dude.

I absolutely adore fucking after smoking weed ! Weed intensifies the sensitivity of both my cunt and anus , making the whole experience infinitely more pleasurable that any words can convey. It also heightens my euphoria during foreplay and fucking - and when I indulge in a ff orgy, I find myself feeling SO elevated that I don't care whether my mother, father, sister or brother are watching - or anyone else for that matter - no matter how divinely kinky my fetish or perversion - in fact I become more of an exhibitionist than ever and feel wholly uninhibited and liberated, casting off all restraints. I wouldn't be without it - regardless of what my female partners attitude towards weed might be. Even giving & receiving golden showers and other water sports feels wicked different ! First I take my customary 2 minute cold shower prior to being drenched and saturated by my female partner's piss, which now feels not merely warm but actually quite HOT on my skin - fantastic sensation ! Like wise any form of water sports in which I engage feel "different" and I can 'power piss' even further than usual.. I My sex life wouldn't be the same without it & I'm not ashamed to admit I'm hooked !

You could at least add a disclaimer, rather than glorifying drug use. A very biased response from users, but that may only reflect the complete disinterest by non users.

The article covers 3 positives and 3 negatives in relation to sex. I don't believe it was glorified. The same as some kink articles which we post hold no interest to many members, articles on swinging and open relationships hold no interest for those looking for a monogamous relationship. Each to his own but it was a topic missing from the blog and the press about the research study only told the positive side which is why my brief to Eva was to cover some of the negatives (in relation to sex).

Going back many years I had a friend who started to smoke and as already accepted he had great sex with his girlfriend, he then started to smoke heavily and daily and the result was he couldn't get it up, eventually he stopped smoking and after a while things became normal, the old saying- a little is good too much is bad - moderation is best. I also have a friend with back problems which medicine can't fix the pain, but he can't take what does help- weed- because if he drives and has a roadside test which he will fail and be classified as a drug addict, I know cops that smoke socially and on duty

So then.... can we please get AMM search updated to include a check box for 420 friendly ? And a No420 so that people can find a more accurate match ? I think that this site's own terms and conditions are probably needing an update considering this story and what is contained in the member stories guidelines.

We did actually discuss this at length when the member story guidelines were updated last year. The issue is members on here not to hook up but to cater for people looking to smoke or for something harder. I knew when we talked about this topic with Eva that the suggestion would come up. I have passed your feedback through to management.

So the article finishes with a summary of
"But until that day, be careful, be safe, and bong on, dude."
Which appears to me when I read it that there's a sense of approval of smoking weed and the entire article is about sex with weed.
To me that appears as though weed and sex are being discussed openly and that there is more acceptance of weed in the community.
I see your concerns that some people may use this site purely to find drugs and that would be a major concern, but in the same way that there is self regulation and blocking of users for their sexual preferences it would be very easy for users to search and block weed smokers if they absolutely do not want that in their lives. Similarly, those who do smoke weed could find each other.
There are plenty of people searching for drugs on other sites which I won't mention but as always, there's the chance of finding the police without knowing it.
Surely the 'adult' part of your site name suggests that we are all consenting adults and that the responsibility for discretion and choice falls on the site users.
More information in a profile of either preference surely helps.
If such options were implemented, then you would also have a 'report member for attempting to find drugs' which would be a very serious cross against an account. 2 crosses out of 3 if proven to be true.
I think it's time to add more information to profiles. That way there could be more of a 'match' as your site name suggests.

I've noticed that there are a lot of female profiles with 420 friendly in their description, but every time I've edited mine to include it, my edits are rejected.
But it doesn't really matter, since this site struggles to get people who are DTF a root, pretty sure it's gonna do sweet F' all for getting weed.

Live with someone that smokes it, he has done for years.

    I’ve never touched it :)

I think men on here are kidding themselves if they think it doesn’t effect their drive :) from what I’ve experienced it’s a slippery slope :(

I guess everyone’s different but I’ve got nothing positive to say about it. Our sex life was pretty great the first few years but not anymore.

I certainly wouldn’t date another person that was on any drug, that’s for sure :)

Used to smoke it, many years ago when I also smoked tobacco. Back then it did enhance sex, as well as everything else but I've found the hydoponic shit people smoke these days just wipes me out - no fun at all. I don't need anything but a willing and eager partner to have great sex.

Very much agree with the modern super-weed being like a kick in the head. I hate it. Growing a couple of plants in a pot each summer season, there is nothing better than the smooth, gradual and enjoyable stone that comes from ordinary, unadulterated dirt-grown mooch. And who knows what that chemical-enhanced hydro shit does to you. Probably not good! Can't wait for dope to be legalised for personal use, as seems to be the world trend these days, but if simple, dirt-grown Mary Jay (of the kind I started on decades ago) won't be on sale then I will be clearing a sunny spot in the garden.

Totally agree - the hydro crap compared to organic grown is like the difference between having a bottle of beer and skulling a bottle of bourbon.

When I was a chronic smoker, it had little effect on my sexual prowess, & nil enhancement to what I could, or would consider a normal, over indulgence sex life, I was on for everything, & anything, but now I'm older, & having given up the weed since 04(a few little puffs since), it's still not affected my sex life, but my ex never smoked drugs, or cigarettes, & I knew that made a difference, but my new partner smokes pot, & yes I agree on the drying out part, to a point.....but other than that, our sex life is great, & she is too...

Weed has never done it for me I just don’t enjoy it probably because I hated smoking - however my regular fuck partner loves it and I enjoy her being out of it when we meet up she does and says the most fun and dirty things - I have tried it with her but I’m not sure that it has ever affected me. So I don’t judge and I’m happy that people get happy. One thing though throughout my life I’ve seen some useless individuals who smoked pot and they were so wasted and pathetic had no ambition nor money , degraded themselves to get money and food that I was generally disgusted and while I recognise that some people are in control of their lives when they smoke generally I despise pot smokers.

I'm in my 50's and have smoked weed as part of my sex life since I was a teenager.Have never, since being a teenager, smoked regularly but bring out the green when I'm feeling frisky.Have used it with women and trans and as described in the article it's the "relaxes and loosens the mind" along with giving you the sensation that you've been at it for hours that attracts.Definately makes me horny as hell and increases my sexual aggressiveness when enjoying my favourite gives & receives.Try and use a vaporiser to avoid the harmful effects of smoking.

I truly agree with Eva on her opinions of weed and sex. I believe and can truly say that some of my most intimate experiences has been while indulging in the weed.
It enhances the feeling for both parties both sexually and in the mind. Your thoughts become more intimate and at the same time it allows to let you become more experimental as your inhibitions become more free.
Truly a wonderful drug for great sexual activities.

And while it continues to get bad press left, right and centre, let's remember that the Chinese were smoking it 5,000 years ago. It's been very well tried, tested, researched and proven relatively harmless for centuries, and the US was aggressively trying to stamp out its use even back in the 1930's (check out "Reefer Madness"). That's how long it's been around in the modern era so it's "high" time it was legalised. Yes, there are drug-driving considerations and maybe some other negatives of legalisation, but even then I would argue that it has always enhanced my driving - I'm more relaxed, more cautious, heightened awareness, etc. Just imagine how domestic violence rates would plummet if everyone used weed instead of alcohol! And the government would get plenty of tax revenue from legally sold weed, at a time when tobacco tax revenue is diminishing. Everybody wins!
Sorry for the soap-box diatribe when the real issue was marijuana and sex, but if we are talking about an illegal drug then something said in its defence is justified.
