Is Safe Sex Possible during Coronavirus?

A banana on a blue background being covered by a mask because of covid19

“Stay Home, Save Lives!” “Social Distancing!” “Booty Calls Are Illegal!”

Seriously, if someone had even muttered these words even six months ago you would have looked at them like they were some sort of paranoid whack-job and wondered if they were in need of help. But times change and here we are, in the midst of a global resurgence at the scary end of a global pandemic. Most of us are used to it by now and a lot of us seem to have forgotten how very serious and extremely contagious this virus is (which is partly why we’re looking down the barrel of a second wave), but the fact is there is still quite a way to go and we really do need to change the way we do certain things.

Notice I said change and not stop? That’s because while yes, there are absolutely risks and hazards involved in intimate encounters during a pandemic even with a regular sexual partner or a fuck buddy, they don’t have to stop completely and, if you think about it, most people already understand the associated risks that come with sexual activity so it shouldn’t be all that hard to add another few precautions to our already switched-on safe sex minds.

Face To Face

In the current environment this is basically a no-no. Being that close, for that long, to someone’s breath and possible contagions definitely needs to change for a while. And while I know how gorgeously intimate and wonderful eye contact and kissing can be during sexual play, for the most part it’s just not viable or conducive to staying Covid free. But fear not! There are heaps of ways you can get down n dirty without ever having to be face-to-face at all!

Position and Positioning

If you look at our What's your favourite sex position post you can see that most people already practice this for no other reason other than it’s one of the best, funnest, most popular sex position for both (cis hetero) men and women… Doggy!

doggy

Hot as fuck. Perfect for both penis and vagina pleasure. Can be as slow and intimate or as hard and dirty as you both decide, and is absolutely 100% not going to get your Corona germs mixed together.

pegging

And let’s not forget, on the other side of the Doggy coin, is the sexy and intimate position of pegging! Getting your backwards sex on is fun and enjoyable for all genders and all sexualities and is totally Covid safe!

cowgirl-reverse

Another brilliant position for exactly the same reasons is Reverse Cowgirl. Perfect for her being in control of the depth and speed, perfect for his visual of her back and butt rocking and moving on his cock… And again, no face to face contact at all!

Oral Awesomeness

Oral sex is about as far away from the face as you can get in a sexual nature while still being intimate and sexy and having an orgasmic time. I mean, if we can’t get out of the house to party down town, why not stay home and party “down town” in a whole other way! There are a few reports coming out that talk about the presence of Corona in the semen of some patients, but it’s still not completely understood or known if it’s a huge risk, however using condoms and dams to help protect you is just the same as other safe sex practice you should be using on your hook ups and booty calls anyway, so just keep being safe like that and you’ll absolutely lower the risks.

Back In The Swing Of Things

Okay, so we know a lot of you here on AMM are swingers and that the Covid restrictions have made it virtually impossible to play, but with some of the restrictions lifted and small gatherings being allowed (numbers vary depending on which state you live in) there are a few ways you can get your swing on that won’t put you or your play partners at risk.

Soft Swap Swinging

So this is basically swinging without swapping. You and your regular partner getting it on in a space with other partners getting it on, but no-one is getting it on with a partner who isn’t their primary. Yeah for those full-swap players it might be a bit of a vanilla downgrade, but it really doesn’t have to be. Performing and showing off for other people who are also doing it for you can be an incredible turn on. You can watch and talk and enjoy the action happening around you without the risk of contracting the virus.

Virtual Swinging

Video gatherings are totally the new black in this time of Corona. From family dinners to work meetings to school classes and award shows and almost any other social event you can think of, and swinging is no different.

A few of our favourite swinger venues are hosting social nights with no sex and some parties are offering streamed virtual parties in video chat for their guests. And if you mix those with the small same room gatherings in the above suggestion, you could almost be at a proper party! And don’t forget our awesome AMM video chat rooms where you can have a party almost any night of the week!

Masks Are Sexy

If you have ever been to a fetish themed party you’ll know just how popular masks can be, but don’t worry! You don’t have to get into a full latex body suit complete with oversized gas mask to get into it all (unless you want to of course!).

sexy-mask

If you’re like me and spend a ridiculous amount of time aimlessly scrolling through Instagram you’ll see just how sexy and appealing some face masks can be. From funky patterns to sultry ninja-esque masks that just show your eyes, to yes the fetish type ones, there are all sorts of different ways to cover your face so you can get a little closer to someone you may not be able to without.

While we’re on the topic of fetish, there are so many different fetish-y ways to play that have absolutely no face-to-face contact at all. Spanking and other impact play, foot fetishes, sensory play like hot wax, ice play, and knife play, figging, sploshing, face-sitting, watersports ... The lists are endless and only limited by your imagination (and your own personal limits obviously).

It really is a different time, and while there is a light at the end of it all, it’s a little bit of an optical illusion as to how close it is and how soon it will arrive. Please don’t let complacency hit you, we’re definitely not out of the danger zone yet, but also don’t let it completely stop you from living your life. Adjustments are imperative, yes, as is awareness and acknowledgement of the risks, but we are humans, we are built to survive and adapt and together, at an appropriate social distance and/or in masks, I know we will get through it.

There's just no way I can get turned on if there's no kissing involved. I think I'll just get it in with my hand for now. Lol

Doggy style "is absolutely 100% not going to get your Corona germs mixed together"!!! WTF

This is some seriously irresponsible writing. BS health advice is not helpful at the best of times.

ACON Health have just released guidelines in conjunction with NSW Health for men using Sex on Premises venues in NSW which have now re-opened and it basically says the same thing to minimise risk "Avoid positions or activities that involve extended face to face contact and saliva exchange".

Great tips Eva during difficult times, thanks for sharing.
We hear and see a lot about Covid-19 everywhere and everyday and suddenly we (at least some) start talking like experts. But the fact is we are not sure what is right and what is wrong, simply because all this virus issue is new to us and still in a research stage.
What we need to understand during this pandemic is "Prevention is better than cure".
So its up to every individual to make the right choices so that they remain safe and keep others safe in best interests of humanity.
May we hope to see light at the end of the tunnel soon!

I am all in favour of risk minimisation. But the introduction to the article and nowhere else in it (that I can see) says anything about the activities being limited to persons already living in the same household or even already intimate partners.

The way the article reads the sex could be between anyone- and this in a situation where visits to someone else's home are prohibited.

People living ion the same household are not required to engage in social distancing. But fair enough if the article was only directed at them it could be risk minimisation. But this is just not clear.

The article also says "A few of our favourite swinger venues are hosting social nights with no sex and some parties are offering streamed parties in video chat for their guests."

This implicitly means some swingers are hosting social nights OTHER THAN online which would be illegal. But there is no exhortation against such parties.

If you are really confident this article does not breach the current social distancing rules then I suggest you check its contents over with the Department of Health becuase I think you may find otherwise.

Both the SA and QLD parties which are held at purpose designed venues which we have featured have fully complied with the health department guidelines in their states, in fact QLD health is currently approving guidelines for all QLD swingers clubs to re-open which have been developed with the consultation of clubs in QLD.

The article is about risk minimisation aimed primarily at couples, lovers, iso buddies, boyfriend/girlfriend. If you have a couple living together who are concerned about the risks they are under during the current pandemic then isn't it better to give them options? Also some states relaxed restrictions to the point where people are hosting small parties, again, this is offering them advice. The article clearly says play with your partner, don't swap. And it's encouraging people to wear masks if they are in close proximity to an intimate partner.

With today’s new curfew announcement , there will be no travel outside a 5km radius from home, and no one allowed out from 8pm - 5am ( unless for work purposes)

Just to be clear, these are the new restrictions for Melbourne where 1 in 4 people who tested positive were not at home when police conducted checks.

Thanks for another great perspective Eva. Although you are your safest sex partner people are still hooking up - sex drives are alive and well even during a pandemic - so some tips for keeping the play sexy but a little safer is fantastic! Stay safe everyone.

Firstly, it's not a second wave. A virus second wave occurs 12 to 24 months after the virus is defined as eliminated. The second wave is worse than the first wave.

Secondly, we aren't at the end of a global pandemic. It has barely started. When infections reach around 500 million, we may actually be getting close to the end of the first wave. That global population has increased almost 6 times since the last pandemic 100 years ago. It killed 70 million people. Multiple that by 6 and hope that tht number is infections and not deaths.

Thirdly, it's never going away. Sorry. It's likely we'll be seeing current patterns for around 2 years at the way people are behaving, even with a vaccine.

And the vaccine isn't going to eradicate the virus. No one is developing that at this time. Some are trying, but they have for over 30 years and counting.

The vaccine will boost immunology function to deal with the disease spectrum caused by the virus.

And finally,. Smart women can take advantage of my coronavirus free isolated location and enjoy safety and sex ...

Where does it say we're in a second wave? It says we are facing one if we don't act now. And yes a second wave, based on historical evidence, will be so much worse. So don't be a masktard people - if you find out you have covid on Monday would you be proud of what you did this weekend?

The initial Covid strain was all but wiped out, in Vic, a few months ago. We are now dealing (in Vic) with a second mutation/strain (as a result of the hotel isolations)

This info is from a client of ours who heads up the infectious diseases unit at a large Melbourne hospital.

"very serious and extremely contagious this virus is (which is partly why we’re looking down the barrel of a second wave), but the"

For many people that phrasing infers the second wave is starting and already in its way. Broadcast media isn't helping as many are calling it a second wave.

The current epidemic situation should be called a resurgence.

When we get to the end of 2021 and everyone vis back to normal, 2022 will be the second wave.

There also needs to be a mutation to the original wave, but that's well underway given the virus imports human DNA as part of its replication process.

Flirtyduo, there are over 600 strains of coronavirus from the original A, B, and C strains.

The Melbourne outbreak is from an original strain as the infected person had returned from a primary location.

It's best for information quality not to use the term "second" or "secondary" at this time as it's only going to be more confusing for average Joe's when the second wave is likely to occur.

Melbourne is simply a continuous outbreak due to stupidity. Which seems to also apply to three teenage Queensland girls.

Same room swinging is where a group of people actually swing, as opposed to separate rooms. I think the nomenclature you are looking for is Soft swap which describes the scenario you imagine. Either Soft swap or Full swap can happen in the same room.

During this pandemic, sex with others is only aS safe as their last “test”.

You can put on condoms & masks until the cows come home, but if you engage in close intimate contact with others (No matter what sexual position ) , there is a risk of contracting Covid, if they are carrying the virus.

The only truly 100% safe sex is with your monagamous partner, providing of course that you are both healthy and neither of you are Covid positive and that you are self isolating & living together.

    • KinkyGirl101

      KinkyGirl101

Actually not true, even people who have been declared "recovered" show signs of the virus in their semen so last test isn't indicative when it comes to covid & sex even for a monogamous couple. And let's not start talking about asymptomatic carriers.

Indeed. I agree with you completely.

So there is no safe sex with regards Covid, not condoms, not sexual position, not even if you were tested negative yesterday . You could be carrying the virus today.

I think a little bit of science might be useful here. If you are in an enclosed indoor space with someone, at less than 1.5 metres distance, and breathing hard and making oooh and aaahh noises and moans and saying ohfuckohfuckyesohbabyyes, for upwards of 20 minutes, without a mask, then you're going to give them whatever respiratory virus you've got. Regardless of kissing, and regardless of sexual positions chosen. This is due to the fact that the virus flies out into the air with every exhalation and every word, in both small visible droplets and also in what are called 'aerosols', the latter being tiny weeny invisible particles that are so light that they hang around accumulating in the air for ages, and are very easy to inhale if you're in the same space. If you don't believe me, please go and listen to half a dozen episodes of Norman Swan on the "coronacast" podcast, because I am not a scientist but he is, and he specialises in this stuff, and that is where I learn my info.

Yeah. Unfortunately people just don't do the right thing so talking about harm and risk minimisation is sometimes better than expecting people to fully abstain.

I agree with your comments above that some science would be useful here. I also think the article can cause confusion in this time where people are getting mixed messages on what to do. Saying that Doggy "is absolutely 100% not going to get your Corona germs mixed together" isn't factual and could lead to complacency at a time when, in some states, we are just getting back to some sort of normality.
