Is there such a thing as too much masturbation?
Q: I love to masturbate. I do it a lot, sometimes to the point where my clitoris is so numb and sore that I couldn’t come again no matter how much I try, and sometimes I wonder if I’m doing any permanent damage. Is it possible to masturbate too much?
The short answer to this question is no, too much masturbation will not cause any permanent damage to your bits, but there are a few “howevers” that come into play.
You mention the clitoral numbness that comes from over stimulating it (and I’ve heard the same from men about their penises after excessive masturbation too) and, while it’s not permanent, it is definitely your body’s reaction to being over stimulated and a sign to stop for a little while and let it settle back down to normal again.
The clitoris is uber sensitive. There are around 8,000 nerve endings just in the tiny tip alone and even more that spread down and around the vulva, but they aren’t made of steel and they do get over worked and over played with until they are, almost literally, rubbed raw. Ouch!
The best way to fix this is to put your pants back on and find something else to do with your hands for a while. That part of your body is pretty resilient and it won’t take more than a few days or so to get back to it’s usual sensitivity, so don’t worry too much.
Because most people have their particular way of masturbating, there is also the possibility of your bits getting a little bit used to the whole thing and (if it were possible for your bits to get bored) get bored with what you’re doing. For example, if you always only use the one speed or rhythm on your vibrator, or always circle your finger in the same way, you may find that after a while it takes a little longer to climax. A great way to see if you can mix it up is by changing how you play a little bit. Instead of circling your clit, try tapping gently, instead of the slow pulse setting, try an escalating up and down buzz. While your body maybe be kind of “wtf is this” at the start (it will be expecting what it’s always had) it will also teach it to react to different forms of stimulation and could be a way of combating those times where your body is feeling a little bit tired of the same ol’ thing.
It doesn’t matter whether you use just your hands or the added inclusion of toys or other accessories, masturbation is perfectly safe for you and your body as long as you always make sure to use body safe products and lube and listen to it when it’s asking you to slow down a bit, and, for that extra peace of mind, always make sure the doors are closed and no-one can see into your window.
